Coaching through Cognitive Dissonance: Using Video to Promote Change

Participants will engage in learning how to create a coaching environment to support changing teachers’ practices within schools and districts. We will do this by seeing how the creation of cognitive dissonance through the use of high cognitive demand tasks and classroom video. Four essential cues for coaching through cognitive dissonance will be shared and illustrated within this session.

Juli K. Dixon, Ph.D

Juli K. Dixon is a professor of mathematics education at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando. She coordinates the mathematics track of the doctoral program in education and the Lockheed Martin/UCF Academy for K-8 Mathematics and Science. She is a co-author of the Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching series (Solution Tree, 2016) and is a leader of Dixon Nolan Adams Mathematics (DNA Math).
